Good news – Covid-19 compliant / 30% of students allowed to return

Since March 15, 2020, when South African President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation and declared a lockdown (level 10), the South African Wildlife College has also been closed. Only the department of the K9 unit “Dogs4rhinos” and air traffic control were allowed to continue operating.

The relaxation announced on May 24th allows our project coordinator Southern African Wildlife College to allow a third of its total student capacity to return. This under strict regulations and additional protocols such as social distancing, sanitizers, personal safety packs per student. The college has also purchased handheld thermometers and an app from The Greenest Office. With this app, everyone who enters the main gate is checked in accordance with the applicable laws and all students on site can be checked regularly.

Under current Department of Education regulations, an academic contact must also be appointed. In turn, the College must ensure more than the minimum required support for its staff and students, the list goes on and on. Nevertheless, there is encouraging news: On July 7, the College was inspected by the Department of Health in a marathon four-and-a-half hour intensive audit. The college was informed on Thursday, July 9, 2020, that it had successfully passed the audit. This was the culmination of months of hard work by the Covid-19 compliance team.

The College is proud to be fully Covid-19 compliant as this demonstrates how seriously it takes the health, safety, welfare and wellbeing of its students, staff and other stakeholders.

As South Africa’s borders remain closed, unfortunately only the students from South Africa will be returning. The entire team is looking forward to welcoming these students and ensuring that they are able to complete their studies.
