Training to become a field ranger is no walk in the park. If you want to work in the bush, you need courage, perseverance, respect and team spirit. All these skills and many more are trained and developed on the Field Ranger course.

During our visit to the college, we met the trainee field rangers and got to know Wendy Ngobeni. She is the only woman on the current course, whose participation is funded by the Friends of African Wildlife. Wendy told us how difficult the start of her training was for her as the only woman – physically, but also mentally – and that she didn’t want to give up.

“I can do it – I am a strong woman!” were her words. And she did it! A few days ago, she passed the course with flying colors. Her degree gives her the chance of a job and thus a secure income with which she can feed her child and support her grandmother. We take our hats off to Wendy and thank our sponsors for giving Wendy and other field rangers the opportunity to receive this training.
