Friends visit Friends! Romy and Heinz visited the Southern African Wildlife College for a day and they were thrilled. We would like to share their letter of thanks to the college with you:
"Sommervent 2022 - we say thank you - more than 23,000 francs have been donated! We can look back on a successful and unforgettable summer event! We were able to spend a special evening with dear friends on the terrace of the Haute in bright sunshine. Theresa Sowry, CEO Southern African Wildlife College, visiting us again for the first time since 2019, told us about the great work in Africa. KapWeine and food scout Richi Kägi provided plenty of enjoyment. DJ Fräne was also a guest again and played the right beats for us. Click here for the picture gallery

Your support is appreciated - a visit to the students Last week Bettina and Christoph Weber visited the Southern African Wildlife College. There they met the students who are sponsored by the Friends of African Wildlife. Over dinner, the students shared their personal stories - touching and hopeful! The training at the college gives them a perspective for the future that they often did not have before. We would like to thank all patrons for their support of the students - their support is sustainable and makes a difference! Would you also like to become a patron and support a student?
On September 3, we held our annual summer event at the HAUTE private club in beautiful sunshine. On this evening, our name says it all: Friends of African Wildlife! Together we toasted with friends, had interesting conversations, enjoyed culinary delights from the HAUTE kitchen, laughed and listened to good music. At the same time, the focus was on our projects: the board members reported on the latest successes and developments and Theresa Sowry, CEO of the Southern African Wildlife College, joined us live. The female Edna (a Coonhound breed) has given birth to the next generation of anti-poaching dogs at the Southern African Wildlife College. The K9 unit "Dogs 4 Rhinos" warmly welcomes the 8 new puppies. The dog trainers are already looking forward to training the little guys to become really good sniffer dogs.
The Kalk AP (Anti-Poaching) is a key component of CAKE's recently launched Electric Bush Bike Anti-Poaching Act initiative, which aims to help organizations in Africa combat the devastating effects of poaching on the continent's most endangered species.
Two poachers arrested Our "Eye in the Sky" aerial surveillance has discovered eleven rhino carcasses in the greater Kruger Park area in the last two months. A number that is shocking. On the positive side, these sightings by pilot Bruce McDonald have enabled the ground teams (including our K9 unit "Dogs4Rhinos") to respond immediately. Two poachers were apprehended as a result. The surveillance also led to a rhino orphan being rescued and relocated to a safe place. A pack of wild dogs was also moved to a safer area.
There is no doubt that 2021 will be another challenging year. But one thing is certain: we at Friends of African Wildlife and the College will continue to fulfill our educational mission to preserve our nature.
